There was no pain quite like the knowledge that your child was in pain. But even worse than that was the realization that Stiles… as much her son as Scott… had been in enough pain that he didn’t want to feel anything anymore. It was a heartwrenching thing to hear as a parent.
But in moments like these, surrounded by pain, Melissa realized more than ever what a family Scott’s pack had become, and how much they’d come to rely on each other. And more than that, just how much she and John had come to depend on each other.

It had been a really long time since the last time Melissa had sex. Maybe that was sort of sad and pathetic to admit to herself, but it was true. When Scott’s father left, she’d poured herself heart and soul into raising her son right, and as any good parent would know, that had taken sacrifice.
But waking up the next morning next to John, who was already awake and, just like the night before, had made coffee for her, she couldn’t help thinking that this had been the right time to change all that. And with the right person.

Being a parent was undoubtedly the hardest thing Melissa had ever done. Sure, being a nurse wasn’t easy, but it had nothing on the pangs of worry that you faced when one of your kids (in her case, including Scott’s entire pack) was hurting. And in this case, it wasn’t just one.
But the one thing that helped her on the hardest days of being a mother was the trust she had in Sheriff Stilinski. She never had to be alone in being a mother, because he was there beside her, helping her carry the heaviest of the parenting loads.

Apr. 2nd, 2014 01:49 amThere were times, though few, that Melissa could sometimes let herself forget that her son was an alpha werewolf. Like the times when he stayed in from going out with friends or pursuing the latest enemy to play board games with her at home.
Like tonight, when she caught him trying to find the “Get Out of Jail” card in Community Chest , and she jokingly tossed the tiny iron at him, though he deflected it easily. “Scott McCall, you’re a dirty, rotten cheat!” And the smile on his face wasn’t a hero’s, but that of a normal teenage boy.

Apr. 1st, 2014 01:25 pmMelissa was a born nurse, but more than that, she was a mom. Scott was her only biological child, but she was an honorary group mom to all of the kids. After everything that had happened lately, it wasn’t unlike her to call all of her kids in the space of an hour to check in.
It one of those phone calls that ended with a very upset Stiles yelling angrily at Melissa, “What do you want? You’re not even my mom!” before hanging up.
She tried not to be hurt, but at the click, her eyes filled with tears.
